The blessing of freedom

Tuesday's Grand Connection Thought
by Mary May Larmoyeux

Tomorrow we'll celebrate the birth of our nation's independence. It will a festive time for our country, and many communities will have fireworks, parades, hot dogs and apple pie!

Not too long ago, Pops' and my pastor reminded us not to take our freedom for granted. As a congregation, we joined thousands of churches across the U.S. in praying for our nation.

As grandparents, I think it's part of our responsibility to help our grandchildren understand the privilege of living in a free country. The next time I see our grandchildren, I think I'll spend a few minutes with them praying for our nation and reminding them that with freedom comes responsibility.

How have you helped your grandchildren understand the privilege and blessings of living in a free country?

"For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield."   (Psalm 5:12)

Have a great week,
Mary

I shall quote my niece’s e-mail on the Fourth of July, 2012. “We put the flags up for the holiday. Each child will tell a story or recite a patriotic poem they know like the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the ‘Nunited States of Merica.’ The daddies will do a fireworks show on the big swimming dock. We sing patriotic songs. The kids have learned to close their eyes tightly after a big fireworks burst so the memory imprints on the back of their eyelids. This is the blessing God gives parents so that we will continue to grow in love and hope for the next time we can see each other. Happy Fourth!” That says it all for one happy family doesn’t it? Enjoy your day. Blessings, Rita
