An Important Thing to Do for Our Grandkids
- by Mary May Larmoyeux -
Pops and I just returned from a visit to our out-of-state grandkids. It was great to see them (and their parents)! But it was sure hard to say goodbye! It will be a long time before we’ll see them again.
As we headed back to Arkansas, I was reminded of the most important thing that we can do for our children and grandchildren ... read more.

The stresses of school
by Mary May Larmoyeux
A friend of mine has a little girl who began kindergarten this year. The night before the five year old started school, she asked her mom, "How will I know where the bathroom is? And where is the restaurant in the cafeteria?"
At first her questions brought a smile to my face, but then they reminded me of how stressful the beginning of school can be for children. Some may wonder where the bathroom and "restaurant" are, while others may struggle with deeper questions such as "Will I make a good friend this year?" or "How can I keep my school work organized while living with mom part of the week and with dad the other part of the week?"
Our grandkids always need the assurance of our love, and they also need our prayers. And Psalm 65:2 says: God answers prayer.
What tips do you have about praying for our school-age grandkids?
Have a great week,
Mary

Tuesday's Grand Connection Thought

Tomorrow we'll celebrate the birth of our nation's independence. It will a festive time for our country, and many communities will have fireworks, parades, hot dogs and apple pie!

Tomorrow we'll celebrate the birth of our nation's independence. It will a festive time for our country, and many communities will have fireworks, parades, hot dogs and apple pie!
Not too long ago, Pops' and my pastor reminded us not to take our freedom for granted. As a congregation, we joined thousands of churches across the U.S. in praying for our nation.
As grandparents, I think it's part of our responsibility to help our grandchildren understand the privilege of living in a free country. The next time I see our grandchildren, I think I'll spend a few minutes with them praying for our nation and reminding them that with freedom comes responsibility.
How have you helped your grandchildren understand the privilege and blessings of living in a free country?
"For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

Here's to Praying Grandparents

Tuesday's Grand Connection Thought
by Mary May Larmoyeux
When I look at the world today, I realize how important it is to regularly pray for our grandkids. Only God knows the challenges they will face in tomorrow’s world.
I’ve begun a prayer notebook to help me be intentional about praying for each of our grands on a regular basis. Since we have five grandkids, I pray specifically for each child one day of the week (Monday, Tuesday, etc.) and record specific prayer requests and Bible verses in a three-ring spiral notebook. It has five sections (one section for each of the grands).
There are many wonderful books on prayer. Two that I enjoy using are While They Were Sleeping: 12 Character Traits for Moms to Pray and A Grandmother’s Guide to Praying for Her Family.
While They Were Sleeping gives specific verses to pray for the following character traits: kindness, humility, teachability, forgiveness, obedience, discernment, purity, responsibility, courage, servanthood, contentment, endurance.
A Grandmother's Guide to Praying for her Family has 260 very short devotions, each beginning with a Bible verse and ending with a prayer.
God honors prayers; I’ve seen this in my own life and imagine that you have too. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to pray without ceasing.
What a privilege it is to pray for our grands. It’s a gift that money can’t buy. One that will affect not only their lives today, but also their future.
He is able,
Mary
