Ahhhhh, Love!

Tuesday's  Grand Connection Thought

As Valentine's Day approaches, I remember a couple of years ago, when one of our granddaughters and her little brother spent the weekend with Pops and me, we made a cake together. When the kids’ parents came over for lunch the next day, they remarked that the cake was especially good.

Our little granddaughter cocked her head. “Know why?” she asked.

“Why?” her dad answered.

“I poured the cake mix in with all of my love,” she said. “The goodness you taste is my love.”

Out of the mouths of babes! She captured the real reason why she wanted to help make the cake. And, she expressed why caring grandparent do what we do. We cook meals, baby-sit, go to football games, pray, and read goodnight stories not out of obligation—but out of love.

Ahhhh, love. What could be sweeter?

How has your grandchild expressed love to you? And how do you express your love to your legacy?

Have a great week,
Mary

How to express love through a bear

Friday's Grand Connection Fun

 by Mary May Larmoyeux

A few years ago a dear friend named Suzanne shared a fun idea with me. It has to do with a bear. A very small bear that's about three inches tall.

To my friend's family, a similar little bear represented their love for one another. They would take turns hiding the bear and when a family member found it, they would be reminded that they were loved.

We are now doing this in our home and the grandkids love it! Recently when I was cleaning the house, I had a surprise when I found the little guy tucked behind a pillow on our couch. It had been a particularly hard day when I found Hugs, and I couldn't help but smile.

What did I do? Packed him up and put him in the mail to some out-of-town grandchildren. I hope they will smile, too, when they rediscover our favorite bear.

Do you have a special way to remind your grandchildren of your love for them?

Have a great weekend,
He is able,
Mary

An 11-year-old boy's thoughts about love

Tuesday's  Grand Connection Thought

After my friend Rita read the Grand Connection column Ahhhhh, Love! she told me a precious story about her 11-year old great-grandson, Caleb. He had a class assignment to write about his family, and he wrote about their love. This is what he said:

“Think of love as water. It carries you through the raging torrent, and then becomes peaceful. This proves that love is everlasting like a stream of water. Like the stream turns into a river, love grows larger and larger. Then the stream goes underground and after thousands of years it makes crystal and then ....diamond. An unbreakable jewel most treasured by few, just like love.”

Isn't that beautiful!

Love has sure carried me through the raging torrents of life. What about you?

Have a great week,
Mary

Cakes Made With Love

Tuesday’s Grand Connection Thought
by Mary May Larmoyeux

God sure teaches me through Pops' and my grandkids.

I can still vividly recall a conversation a then 3-year-old granddaughter and I had while baking a cake together. When her parents joined us for lunch, they remarked that the cake was especially good.

The three year old cocked her head.

Love—there’s nothing better, is there?

I’m reminded of 1 Corinthians 13:13,“And now these three remains: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."

Have a great week!
