The Great American Campout!

Friday’s Fun (May 30, 2008)

It’s Friday — time to talk about some fun things to do with the grands!

Did you know that the National Wildlife Federation is having a “Great American Campout” on June 28? Depending on the ages of your grandkids you may want to start planning a camping adventure. You could camp with your grandchild in your backyard, make a tent or fort inside the house for hours of fun, or go camping at an RV park or campground.

You might want to invite the grands to your house on the evening of June 28, grill hamburgers and hotdogs, and gaze together into the sky at all of the marvelous stars the Lord has created.

The National Wildlife Federation has a great website with info. about
backyard campouts. You can register for the “Great American Campout” or just click on some of the links (such as “Get Ready to Camp"). I printed instructions to make a Rustic Stick Frame. (Yes, our three-year-old granddaughter will be visiting this weekend. Guess what we’re going to make?) I also printed some campout recipes. Can’t wait to try the Oatmeal Trail Mix.

Now, that’s another thing that we can do with our grands. Make the campout recipes together. I think our little granddaughter and I will just whip up a couple of batches of trail mix during her visit—one for Pops and me and the other for her parents. Or, maybe we’ll make three batches—the third for her out-of-town cousins. I might just take a picture of us making the recipe together and mail it —with a colored note from their little cousin—and of course the trail mix.

There sure are lots of fun things to do—especially with our precious grandchildren!

Do you have any camping ideas that you'd like to share? Or, special camping memories?

He is able,
Mary

The campout at home sounds like a great idea, especially for younger children. Let us know how it goes.

I'm enjoying your new blog.

It's been fun to get e-mails from many of you. Thanks for your encouragement about the Grand Connection!

Some of you are having trouble leaving comments. I'm so sorry. Maybe this will help. After you click on "comment" at the end of a blog, you just type in your comment, the "test" word (to prevent spammers), and then either enter your Google/Blogger info. or click on "anonymous." If you choose "anonymous," you could still type in your name, initials, etc. below the comment itself ... or you could just leave it "anonymous." Hope this helps!
